Do You Live FTW?
Whenever you aim to achieve a financial goal, or really any goal, it’s best to start with the end in mind. Decide in advance what your goals are going to be and put them down on paper.
Aw heck, let’s take some action instead of just talking about it!
Grab a piece of paper and a writing utensil and answer the following questions:
1. What is your desired annual income?
2. What is your desired net worth?
Done?
Great! Go ahead and add a couple more zeros on the end of both of those numbers. NOW we’re talking! Are you getting excited? Come on! Maybe just a little bit?
So here’s the question: If some people play a game to win, and others play not to lose, where do you think they’re going to end up? If your first set of numbers were calculated to just cover your mortgage, car payments, insurance, credit card debt and have a little bit of spending money on the side are you really playing for the win? Was your desired net worth a number that you were hesitant to write? Did you think of a big number first and then scale it back to a safer number? See where we’re going with this?
If you want to score a goal, you don’t hang back and play defense. You push it as hard as it can go, rock the offense and never back down. Similarly, if you’re looking to reach a financial goal, you’re going to value pushing for wealth and abundance over hanging back for survival and security. If you’re looking for a win, you don’t shoot for the moon; you shoot for that big red dot on the Jupiter!
Do you like baseball? We do! Take the San Diego (our most recent hometown!) Padres for example. The Padres started the season ranked 27th only to find themselves cracking the top 10 and then the top 5 in short succession. They’re sweepin’ it up all over the place so far this season, and it’s safe to say that they’re playing this year FTW – For The Win. Shouldn’t you be too?
Playing for the win is vital. Since your focus will ultimately determine your destination, focus on getting the win instead of avoiding the loss. Every time you’re up at bat in life, in your finances, even in your relationships, you have to play FTW. Say it out loud as your new personal mantra! Get it into your subconscious and bring it into your world. All together now: FTW!!!
Go Padres!
