Do You Live FTW?

FTW4 300x199 Do You Live FTW?

Whenever you aim to achieve a financial goal, or really any goal, it’s best to start with the end in mind. Decide in advance what your goals are going to be and put them down on paper.

Aw heck, let’s take some action instead of just talking about it!

Grab a piece of paper and a writing utensil and answer the following questions:

1. What is your desired annual income?

2. What is your desired net worth?

Done?

Great! Go ahead and add a couple more zeros on the end of both of those numbers. NOW we’re talking! Are you getting excited? Come on! Maybe just a little bit?

So here’s the question: If some people play a game to win, and others play not to lose, where do you think they’re going to end up? If your first set of numbers were calculated to just cover your mortgage, car payments, insurance, credit card debt and have a little bit of spending money on the side are you really playing for the win? Was your desired net worth a number that you were hesitant to write? Did you think of a big number first and then scale it back to a safer number? See where we’re going with this?

If you want to score a goal, you don’t hang back and play defense. You push it as hard as it can go, rock the offense and never back down. Similarly, if you’re looking to reach a financial goal, you’re going to value pushing for wealth and abundance over hanging back for survival and security. If you’re looking for a win, you don’t shoot for the moon; you shoot for that big red dot on the Jupiter!

Do you like baseball? We do! Take the San Diego (our most recent hometown!) Padres for example. The Padres started the season ranked 27th only to find themselves cracking the top 10 and then the top 5 in short succession. They’re sweepin’ it up all over the place so far this season, and it’s safe to say that they’re playing this year FTW – For The Win. Shouldn’t you be too?

Playing for the win is vital. Since your focus will ultimately determine your destination, focus on getting the win instead of avoiding the loss. Every time you’re up at bat in life, in your finances, even in your relationships, you have to play FTW. Say it out loud as your new personal mantra! Get it into your subconscious and bring it into your world. All together now: FTW!!!

Go Padres!

I think that we can all relate and have had people in our lives that bring us “down”. For me, it is true that making yourself “unavailable” is key! There was a point for me where I was exhausted from the “maintaining” of one of my relationships (which happened to be family as well). I realized one day that just because they are family, doesn’t mean that I should allow them to take this much energy AWAY from me. Then I started reading Secrets of a Millionaire Mind and realized even more how other people’s energy affects us! So, I made even more changes to surround myself with people who have the same goals/interests and those frenemies just kind of “fall away” by themselves!

Here in Phoenix we have the 2% Club to surround ourselves with amazing successful positive people that all believe in the principals of Peaks. I’m grateful to Jeff Fagin for starting it and for all of the wonderful people that help make it great!

People are interesting creatures. If you really listen and pay attention to those “small” comments or facial expressions, you can objectively determine who and what you are dealing with in a small amount of time. Once, I was meeting an individual in a personal development/accountability partner situation and those “small” comments the individual would infer about others was really that person’s hang up with those who were more progressive and successful than them. The short was, they really had an issue with individual(s) who displayed strong personalities, were laser focused on their goals, made decisions and stood behind them, etc and a few other successful qualities. Well in the end, and the interaction did end :) …the individual had to soon realize that those controlling, “game playing” ways that made them somewhat successful with some in the past had gotten them into a tight spot and left them in a losing position. All communication was subsided amicably but left the individual to wander how her frenemy mindset rendered a “less than lofty” position.

I have found that once a person is climbing their “wealthy ladder” with integrity and positive energy, the frenemies automatically back off, and eventually fade away. The trick is that a person must not feel guilty about it since it is not the wealthy person ditching a friend; but rather “the friend” can’t handle the positive vibes and doesn’t want to step up (but would rather step down and remain where they are- focused on holding others back rather so that they don’t have to look at their issues and why aren’t stepping it up themselves). In summary, it is transition and it all works out for the better in the end. Let’s face it who wants to keep negative people around anyways?!

For The Win! Yes, yes, yes!
Don't aim for survival, security, comfort, etc.
Live to win, to be successful, to distribute love and wealth.
    I'll go for that…
    Thanks millionaire mind!
    I already feel better.

Well, what can I say, Harv's been a good teacher! I've been playing FTW for a decade now.

    Here's how it's shaped up:

Started a business with a few thousand dollars in 1999 and made lots of money, add another couple of zero's, and sold it in 2008.

I've spent the last 2 years here on planet earth sailing in the Sea of Cortez on my sailboat. I've been enjoying a life of adventures…I'm back in Canada now and feeling all charged up again!

Ready to play FTW all over again.

    Here's to the next adventure!

I would not be fearful of taking risks and always move full speed ahead. I try to do that always, but it's tough!

I am going to join Harv (and Joe below) in having a FTW outlook. I'm jumping in and making it happen, giving it my all For The Win!! Thanks so much for this perspective!! I know it is going to make major changes in every aspect of life.
